The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will be among law enforcement agencies in Michigan with extra patrols on the road this coming weekend. Chief Deputy Robert Boyce tells WSJM News they’ll be looking for drunk drivers on Halloween.
“It’s a very popular holiday for people to celebrate and to party, and with it falling on a Saturday this year, we are concerned that it may increase the amount of individuals out there celebrating,” Boyce said.
Boyce says it’s not worth the risk to your safety and freedom to drive after drinking. A conviction can result in jail, thousands of dollars lost, and more.
“The best rule of thumb is if you consume any alcoholic beverages, play is safe and get a designated driver to take you from Point A to Point B.”
Boyce says with COVID, the sheriff’s department doesn’t know what to expect in terms of people gathering. It’s taking part in the 2020 Halloween “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” Enforcement Campaign with Michigan State Police and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
