The Detroit Tigers have hired A.J. Hinch to be their new manager, giving him a chance to return to a major league dugout after he was fired by Houston for the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. Hinch said he will talk with the scandal with his players.

“There’s a clear message that is part of my story and part of my career. It’s not a part of the players I’m going to be managing,” Hinch said. “I’m sorry they’ll have to deal with it and I’m sorry that we’ll have to talk about it, but that is our reality because wrong is wrong, and it was very wrong. I’ll make sure that everybody knows that I feel responsible because I was the manager and it was on  my watch.”

The 46-year-old guided Houston to the 2017 World Series title. That championship, and a lot of what Hinch accomplished there, is now viewed in a different light. An investigation found the Astros used a video feed from a center field camera to decode the opposing catcher’s signs.
