A resolution affirming the district’s commitment to equity in education for all students has been approved by the St. Joseph Public Schools Board of Education. The unanimous vote on Monday came after the board spent the past year looking at ways the school district can promote inclusion, diversity, and equity. St. Joseph Public Schools in September formed the Task Force for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity, or TIDE, to work in that direction. That body consists of the board president, the superintendent, four high school students, district principals, and representatives from the Boys and Girls Club and the OutCenter, among others. The St. Joe School Board says it can do more to push for equity by increasing the intentionality of programs, practices, and training. The board says Monday’s resolution is a “message to our students, families, and staff that we intend to make real, positive, and lasting improvement related to inclusion, diversity, and equity.”
