After the rush of Black Friday, local shoppers are encouraged to mark Small Business Saturday this week. St. Joseph Today Director Amy Zapal tells WSJM News Small Business Saturday is marked every year to encourage people to hit up their local independent shops.

“Shopping local truly means supporting the people who are neighbors and friends throughout the community,” Zapal said. “It’s a really wonderful and personal way, something that is hard to find these days.”

Shops in downtown St. Joseph will offer special reasons to stop by this Saturday.

“Whether it’s a brand new line of an inventory item, special sales, special pricing, featuring something they haven’t had before. There’s all sorts of ways that the businesses celebrate and offer something enticing to shoppers.”

Zapal notes when you shop local, more than 60 cents of every dollar you spend will stay local. You can find more information on Small Business Saturday opportunities at St.JoeToday.com.
