The Berrien County Health Department is suggesting those who attended Thanksgiving gatherings consider getting themselves tested for COVID-19. Spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News health officials advised people to stay at home, but they know many didn’t.

“People really should be considering getting tested for COVID-19 as the week continues on,” Conrad said. “Typically, people seem to have symptoms between days 5 and 7 after an exposure. So by the end of thei week, or maybe early next week, you might want to consider getting yourself tested.”

Conrad says that’s even if you don’t have symptoms. She notes case rates of COVID are not going down and show no signs of doing so even after the state extended COVID restrictions this month.

“We still have at least another week and a half in our 3 week pause as was given by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.”

Conrad says there are plenty of places to get tested for COVID-19, and many do not require any kind of doctor’s authorization. You can find testing locations at BCHDMI.org. She’s also suggesting that people think about how they’re going to handle Christmas as that holiday approaches.
