Christmas is just weeks away and this year’s stock of trees in Michigan are selling fast. Amy Start is the executive director of the Michigan Christmas Tree Association says sales of trees during the pandemic have been up 25 to 50% for some growers.

“Some of the choose-n-cut farms that are smaller operations, because they are selling out so quickly this year, may have to close early,” says Start. “So, if customers are looking for a tree from a specific farm, all I can say is to go and shop early and make sure you get a Christmas tree if that’s where you want to do. If not, you may have to drive a little further.”

Start says there are over 500 Christmas tree growers in Michigan and the industry generates about $35 million in revenue each year.
