Governor Whitmer says she remains optimistic there will be legislative action this week after her latest letter.

“I’ve sent another letter to the Legislature urging them to work with me on priorities line $100 million on COVID relief,” said Whitmer.

She also wants a mask mandate in law and unemployment benefits extended permanently to 26 weeks from 20 weeks.

“We know this virus is hurting our people, it’s hurting our businesses. There are people who have spent a lifetime building up their small business, and they’re hanging on by a thread.”

Whitmer said the latest COVID-19 numbers show the pause order by the Department of Health and Human Services is working. When asked if she would order a special session or if she even could, she said she can’t answer that right now.
