A special delivery was made to Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph on Wednesday. Spokesperson Jessica Springer tells WSJM News it was courtesy of South Bend International Airport.

“Today, they dropped off about 300 Teddy bears which we will distribute to patients in our emergency department, pediatric unit, and to our new babies born at the Birth Place,” Springer said.

The 300 Teddy bears arrived as part of the airport’s annual Bears in the Air campaign. Springer tells us COVID changed the program a little.

“This year was a little bit different. Normally, they have community members donate the Teddy bears, but due to COVID, they just collected funds and then they were able to purchase new Teddy bears working with an area company.”

Springer says the 300 bears will be given out to kids and newborn babies throughout the year. She says they help children feel a little better when they have to stay at the hospital.
