The Southwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees spent part of its monthly meeting this week reviewing its accomplishments in 2020. SMC President Joe Odenwald presented a list that included the development of SMC’s first online courses, preparation of the 2020 through 2023 strategic plan to be published in January, negotiating a contract for enhanced food service, increasing emergency reserves, and receiving approval to resume cross country next fall after 25 years. Despite COVID, Odenwald says SMC was able to make progress on several goals throughout 2020. He also said the college’s first strategic plan in a decade has come together thanks to the hard work of dozens of staff members. Additionally, he noted SMC this year secured pledges of more than $30,000 for the Roadrunner Recruiting Gallery, upgraded information technology infrastructure, and approved two new allied health programs.
