Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed most of the bipartisan relief bill that the Michigan legislature passed after she urged them to provide support for Michigan families, frontline workers, and small businesses.

“The bipartisan relief bill will provide families and small businesses the support they need to stay afloat as we continue working to distribute these vaccines and eradicate COVID-19 once and for all,” says Whitmer.

She says it includes $55 million to directly help businesses impacted by COVID-19.

“Grants of up to $20,000 are going to be made available to small businesses across Michigan that need some support this winter,” says Whitmer. “The relief bill also includes $3.5 million for grants of up to $40,000 each for live music and entertainment venues.”

She line-item vetoed $220 million dollars to the employer-owned unemployment insurance trust fund. Whitmer called that a “giveaway” and said it’s a deposit going to no one right now.
