Bella was the most popular name for dogs in Van Buren County in 2020. That’s according to Van Buren County Treasurer Trisha Nesbitt, who has released the most registered dog names and breeds for the year. While Bella came in at number one for dog names, it was followed by Buddy, Lucy, Daisy, and Sadie. As for the most registered breeds, the mighty Chihuahua came out on top, followed by the Labrador Mix, German Shepherd, Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever. Nesbitt says she’s glad more than 5,000 dogs were licensed in the county in 2020, noting it’s the law to license your dog. You can do so at the treasurer’s office, Van Buren County Animal Control, veterinarian clinics, and some township halls.
