Governor Gretchen Whitmer has released a video reflecting on 2020. 2020 In Review starts with a clip of Whitmer laying out priorities for the year in December of 2019. At the time, the talk was about the economy and “fixing the damn roads.” It doesn’t take long, though, to get to the pandemic.

“We’re here today because we’ve identified the first presumptive positive case of coronavirus in Michigan,” Whitmer said in a clip from March. “I’ve signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency.”

Then we’re off to the races with a dramatic video recounting a year that most will not remember fondly. Highlights include flooding in Midland County and social upheaval after the death of George Floyd.

“This is a time for solidarity and for allies to listen, to learn, and for every one of us to take action, not just Brown and Black Michiganders, every one of us,” Whitmer said in a clip from June.

And let’s not forget the plot by extremists to kidnap the governor that was thwarted by authorities. Whitmer closes out the year in review by remarking 2020 has been a horrible year, but it wasn’t all horrible. She reflects it was also a year in which we saw the best brought out of some people. She looks forward to making 2021 a year of economic recovery and getting kids back in school.
