The Berrien County Health Department has expanded the eligibility for COVID-19 vaccines. Spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News the department has vaccinated its staff and residents in priority groups 1 and 2 of Phase 1A.

“We are still working from the first allocation that was given to the Berrien County Health Department in late December, and at this point we’ve given out more than 300 of those initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,” Conrad said.

Conrad says the department has now announced all individuals who are included in any of the Priority Groups in Phase 1A can get the vaccine.

“This includes physical therapists, phlebotomists, eye care doctors, dentists, dental hygienists, anybody who might be having that interaction with patients, either directly or indirectly.”

The Berrien County Health Department has engaged directly with facilities that employ people in those groups to coordinate vaccination for their employees. Conrad says if you’re in that group and haven’t heard anything, you should give the health department a call. She adds the speed of the vaccination effort will increase as more doses become available and we move deeper into the year. Conrad recommends signing up for the Berrien County Health Department’s vaccine newsletter to stay in the loop regarding the most up to date information.
