As chaos took over the U.S. Capitol Wednesday with armed rioters storming the building to protest the loss of President Trump in November’s election, Congressman Fred Upton called for a restoration of order. He issued a statement on social media, saying “I am safe and sheltered in place. Horrified and shell-shocked by the violence of rioters trying to undo the constitutional transfer of power.” Upton closes by calling on the president to call off the insurrection. Upton wrote, “Donald J. Trump, for the sake of our nation and safety of our people, tell your supporters to stand down and leave town.” The president did issue a statement late Wednesday telling the protesters to go home.
