The Krasl Art Center has reopened after it shut down in November over concerns about COVID-19. Krasl Director Julia Gourley Donohue tells WSJM News they feel the situation in Berrien County has improved enough to welcome people back.

“We are very, very happy to have abbreviated hours that we are open, and we’re open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we’re happy to invite back not only general visitors to the Krasl Art Center’s galleries, but also people into our gift shop,” Gourley Donohue said.

Gourley Donohue says Krasl still managed to keep busy throughout the shutdown.

“We really missed the face to face interaction with visitors, but our team has still been very, very busy. We’ve been offering a lot of take home art activities, virtual art education classes, studio experiences  that are taking place form home.”

With Krasl back open again, Gourley Donohue says visitors will be asked to wear masks, there is contact tracing in place, and occupancy will be limited. She notes the current exhibitions both will end on January 24, so if you haven’t seen them, now’s the chance. They are “Artists as Influencers: Pathways in Glass” and “Shelter in Place.” Also this week, the Krasl announced it’s been awarded a $24,000 grant by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. That will help it with business expenses.
