A committee in the Michigan House is talking about human trafficking and how the state can help to combat it. State Representative Mary Whiteford of Casco Township is the chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and says testimony was taken this past week.

“Here’s people who have no family, they have no resources, they have nowhere to go,” Whiteford said. “We can go and save them, but what happens if they can’t find a place to go from there? That was the whole focus of this committee today.”

Whiteford says she will continue her focus on getting shelter and services for human trafficking victims. She adds anyone who is vulnerable could become a victim of human trafficking, and it happens at all levels of society.
