St. Joseph Public Schools is searching for a new superintendent. The school board held a special meeting this morning to accept the resignation of Dr. Thomas Bruce, effective tomorrow. In a statement, board president Barry Conybeare says they appreciate his time and “wish him nothing but the best.” WSJM News asked Conybeare about it.

“I need to respect Dr. Bruce’s personal privacy and I am not going to get into the reasons for the transition at this time,” he said.

The district says the resignation is not related to anything inappropriate with a student, staff member, or anyone in the community. Kelly Gaideski has been chosen at interim superintendent and has 32 years of experience as assistant high school principal, curriculum director and assistant superintendent. Conybeare says he’s looking forward to working with her.

“Kelly’s been with the district 12 years in a number of different roles,” said Conybeare. “She’s been our assistant superintendent since the middle of last year and has done a good job.”

Bruce will be paid $75,000 in severance in a lump sum.
