A 76-year-old Berrien Township man is recovering after falling through the ice on O’Brien Lake near Berrien Center on Wednesday. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says 76-year-old Donald Skibbe and 59-year-old Ryan Huff were ice fishing when it Skibbe fell through. Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene in the 8500 block of Lake Road shortly after 5:30 p.m. and found Huff holding up Skibbe in the water with a rope. A sheriff’s deputy then helped hold up Skibbe until more help arrived. After the Eau Claire Fire Department and Indian Lake Fire Department arrived at the scene, the two victims were taken back to shore with only minor injuries.
