With a new COVID-19 vaccine available thanks to Johnson and Johnson, Congressman Fred Upton says the nation can see progress on beating the disease accelerate, and that will mean more work is needed in Washington. Upton tells WSJM News support for research will have to continue.

“We have to be prepared for the next wave, and that research has begun, but we know that this strain of COVID-19 is probably different than what we’re going to see next fall,” Upton said. “So just like we have a new flu shot every year to look into the new variants of the flu, we’re probably going to need a different vaccine for COVID.”

Upton says it’s thanks to those researchers that there’s hope now for an end to the pandemic. He commends the FDA’s emergency use authorization for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine as it gives everyone a third option.
