Buchanan Group Planning Pandemic Mental Health Forum This Weekend

A forum on pandemic mental health organized by One Buchanan will be held this weekend. The moderator will be Dr. Harvey J. Burnett, a professor of psychology at Andrews University. He tells WSJM News COVID precautions for a year have taken their toll on people.

“People feel isolated, they’re feeling lonely, and then we have rises in depression,” Burnett said. “Then what we’re also seeing with that is now rises in suicides. There may be also some issues with substances, an increase in substance use and abuse.”

Burnett says some university studies have also found some participants showing signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. This Saturday’s virtual forum will feature three counselors with expertise on family therapy, sexual health, and depression. The 2 p.m. forum will be on both YouTube and Facebook and people will be able to ask questions. Below is information on attending:
