Former Michigan Attorney General Frank Kelley has passed away at the age of 96. He’s the longest-serving attorney general in the nation’s history. Former Governor James Blanchard spoke about Kelly’s legacy.

“He was a giant in American public service,” says Blanchard. “He belongs also to an era of civility and decency and non-partisanship with respect for others. He ran his office for almost 40 years with complete integrity and honor. He was a pioneer in environmental protection and consumer protection long before there was Earth Day or even Ralph Nader emerged.”

Kelley was born in Detroit and served 37 years as Michigan’s chief law enforcement officer from 1961 to 1999 under five governors.
