How much longer will elected bodies and other boards continue to meet virtually instead of in-person? The Berrien County Board of Commissioners Administration Committee was told on Wednesday there’s a bill in the Michigan Senate to allow that to continue through the end of June. Commissioner Jim Curran said it would be nice if some form of in-person meetings could resume.

“At least if we could get them to extend it through June 30, we could possibly even come up with a hybrid so that we could try to meet in person as best as we can, and either presentations could be via Zoom, all the commissioners could be present, that type of thing. It would at least give us some flexibility.”

The committee was asked if it supports the Legislature approving that extension of virtual meetings through June 30. Commissioner Dave Vollrath said he doesn’t believe the remote meetings have been good for the commission, but it makes sense for the extension due to distancing requirements. The county board could also just express support to local state lawmakers.
