Michigan has 2,316 new COVID-19 cases for Wednesday for a total of 601,284 in the past year. The Department of Health and Human Services reports 7 people have died to bring that number to 15,706. State chief medical executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says things are slightly going in the wrong direction.

“Statewide, test positivity has actually increased to 4.1%, up from 3.4% three and a half weeks ago,” says Khaldun. “The case rate is now at 114 cases per million, and has increased over the past three weeks.”

She said new variants continue to appear in the state and cautions everyone to be diligent so there is not a reversal on positivity rates. In southwest Michigan, Berrien County has 56 new cases for a total of 10,903 with 226 deaths. Van Buren County is at 4,796, up by 14 from Tuesday with 86 dead.
