A high school in western Michigan has reopened, a day after a student accidentally detonated a homemade explosive in a classroom. Meanwhile, the boy’s father is in hot water after a search of his home in Newaygo County. David Saylor is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and manufacture or possession of a Molotov cocktail. At his arraignment Tuesday, Judge Melissa Dykman told Saylor he was a threat to Newaygo County.

“It is disconcerting to the court the choices you’ve made as a parent that have put not only your own children at risk but the children of the community,” she said.

Police say Saylor’s 16-year-old son brought a homemade explosive to Newaygo High School and accidentally detonated it, injuring himself, four other students and a teacher. The prosecutor says the teen lost both thumbs. Police say the explosion was not something that was planned.
