The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has approved a settlement agreement with Jason Latham, the former director of the Berrien County Road Department. The board approved the agreement on Thursday. Board Chair Mac Elliott read a brief statement.

“We wish Mr. Latham well in his new endeavors,” Elliott read. “In the coming weeks, we will begin the process of identifying the best person to lead the county road department.”

The statement continues, saying the board of commissioners is releasing a copy of the settlement agreement to the public and the media as part of a commitment to transparency. The settlement agreement has Latham agreeing to resign, effective Monday of this week. It also allows him a $28,000 payment, or about three months of salary, and another $8,900 for unused vacation time. A reason for Latham being placed on administrative leave last month and then his resignation this week has not been released.
