A community recycling event will be held by the Berrien County Parks Department next month. The first of the year, the Reduce Reuse Recycle Day will be on Wednesday, April 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lake Michigan College in Benton Township. The event will be held in the parking lot in front of the Mendel Center. Berrien County Environmental Property Manager Jill Adams tells WSJM News they’ll take four types of items to be recycled.

“Those items include household chemicals, electronics, foam, and also personal documents for on-site shredding,” Adams said.

Adams tells us since county recycling events were started, more than 34,000 people have participated, and 1.9 million pounds of waste have been recycled.

“For the past 25 years, we’ve been conducting these events, and they just get more and more popular and more and more busy every year, and I just want to thanks the residents of Berrien County for taking that extra effort to recycle their things.”

The April 14 event will be drive-up only, with everyone asked to stay in their vehicles. To find all of the rules and about future events, go to BerrienCounty.org, and look at the Recycling Services page.
