Republicans are flocking to the defense of a jailed Holland restaurant owner who has defiantly kept her restaurant fully open without any steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Marlena Pavlos-Hackney is in the Ingham County Jail without bond. State Senator Aric Nesbitt’s district includes Holland and he spoke outside of Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria Monday and had a message for Governor Whitmer.

“Do your job, reopen the state, allow business owners to get back to work, allow folks to actually start making a living instead of trying to rely on a hand out of either he federal or state government. That’s why I’m here,” said Nesbitt.

The restaurant opened Friday after she was arrested, but her supporters have since boarded it closed to try to get her out of jail.
