There is still a lot of concern about the spread of the coronavirus in Michigan. Some families are heading to other parts of the country for spring break, while others are taking part in sporting events like basketball districts. The number of new cases topped five-thousand yesterday for the first time this year. Dr. Harrison Tong, director of emergency medicine at McLaren Oakland, says they are seeing a slight uptick.

“Every time it seems we have a little spike that we hear in the news,  I see it at work,” says Tong. “I would say the last seven days, we have seen a slight uptick that parallels what we have heard in the news.”

In response to reports that more younger people are getting the virus, Dr. Tong attributes it to them being in the que to get vaccinated later and some are fatigued from coronavirus restrictions, so some are not social distancing or using PPE.
