There’s a new effort to ban billboards advertising marijuana in Michigan. State Representative Mary Whiteford is leading the charge. The Republican from Casco Township says she doesn’t want to see pot everywhere she goes.

“There’s a billboard in Holland that says ‘The New State Flower,’ and it shows marijuana, and I’m like, ‘This isn’t right. I don’t want my grandkids to be exposed to this,’” Whiteford said.

Whiteford has introduced legislation that would prohibit billboard advertising of marijuana products. She says a similar ban on billboard tobacco advertising has been in place for decades. Dearborn Democrat Abdullah Hammoud is also introducing legislation for the same fight.
