Countryside Academy is the winner of state Senator Kim LaSata’s 2021 Southwest Michigan Spirit Tournament. She holds the tournament each spring to let high schools in her district compete to show who has the most school spirit. It’s a March Madness-style bracket competition based on social media activity. Countryside Academy in Benton Harbor edged out Michigan Lutheran for the title this year. LaSata congratulated Countryside, saying southwest Michigan “came together more than ever to rally around our students and schools after what has been a difficult year spent largely apart from one another because of the pandemic.” She thanked schools for taking part. The spirit tournament started last month with 31 high schools competing in four brackets.
