The winners of the Rotary Club of St. Joseph-Benton Harbor’s annual Rotary Scholarship Essay Contest have been announced. Coming in first place is Aeryn Hart, a senior at St. Joseph High School. Second place goes to Leah Brucal, a senior at Lake Michigan Catholic High School, and third place goes to Samuel Stephens, a senior at Lakeshore High School. The three were asked to write about what their administration’s policy agenda would be if they were elected president of the United States. The Rotary says Hart, the first place winner, is a writer who hopes to one day become a published author or poet. She is the literary magazine editor of St. Joe High School’s newspaper, The Wind-Up. Brucal is active at Lake Michigan Catholic in several ways, being part of the Rotary Interact Club at LMC, the International Club, the student council, and the National Honor Society. Stephens is involved in with cross country, track, the Math and Science Center, Key Club, Interact, and the sailing team at Lakeshore. The Rotary Scholarship Essay Contest is now in its 41st year.
