The state’s Rebuilding Michigan bond program is going to mean a whole lot of road work on highways this year, and a new video from Governor Gretchen Whitmer highlights some of it. In it, she says the $3.5 billion bond program enables the state to plan several projects at once for savings. For example, work this year on I-69 in St. Clair, Genesee, Clinton, Eaton, and Calhoun counties.

“This is the work that we’re getting done,” Whitmer said. “This is a project that over a longer period of time would cost $300 million, but because of economies of scale and because we’re able to put the dollars in now, we’re able to save the taxpayers almost $100 million.”

The governor’s administration sold the $3.5 billion in bonds to get some road work done. Other projects this year include I-196 in Allegan County, I-75 in Monroe County, and I-94 in Jackson County.
