Another $52 million has been pumped into the Thompson Working Families Scholarships. It’s money that will go to students at Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State, Bowling Green, and Grand Valley State University. The money is from a Michigan couple, Bob and Ellen Thompson, according to Grand Valley’s Lynn “Chick” Blue.

“It was her dream,” Blue said. “For years, she watched people who worked for them in their asphalt business, and realized that these were working families, but they didn’t have sufficient resources to pay for a college education.”

Blue says more than 1,100 students have been helped with the scholarships. The new donation means another 300 per year will be helped at GVSU.
