While the number of cases of COVID-19 is dropping in Michigan, health officials are still concerned about people who are hospitalized. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Elizabeth Hertel says there are still high in-patient levels, but they are leveling off. She says fatigue for nurses, doctors and other hospital workers is a big concern.

“We know it’s really hard to go through this the first time,” Hertel said. “It’s really hard to go through this the second time, and then to have a third surge like this and continue to see people coming in who are incredibly ill is very difficult, I know, for those healthcare providers,”

Hertel says the healthcare workers have done an amazing job of caring for coronavirus patients. Michigan reported 3,676 new cases of COVID for Tuesday. That brings the pandemic total to more than 829,000. The state recorded 105 additional deaths for Tuesday, with 48 of them identified through a review of vital records. A total of 17,429 COVID deaths have been recorded in Michigan. Berrien County reported 24 additional COVID cases for Tuesday, now at a pandemic total of 13,073 with 248 deaths. Van Buren County had 39 additional cases for the day for a total of 6,200 with 99 deaths. Cass County reported 12 new cases for the day for a total of 4,550 with 68 deaths.
