Michigan will lose one seat in the U.S. House of Representatives as a result of our slow population growth. U.S. Census officials announced yesterday Michigan saw a 2% gain in residents over the past ten years bringing the total number of to just more than ten million. Vickie Kovari, who ran the Detroit 2020 Census Campaign, told Michigan News Network the loss shouldn’t affect federal funding.

“It does not impact the federal funding we get,” Kovari said. “That’s based on the population total, and so that will be a different story, in terms of the impact it will have on federal funding.”

It’s unclear at this time which Congressional seat will be eliminated.
