The Michigan Department of Health and Human Service and the Michigan Department of Transportation have teamed up to offer COVID-19 testing at Welcome Centers around the state. That includes the New Buffalo Welcome Center. MDHHS spokesperson Chelsea Wuth tells WSJM News they offer 15-minute antigen testing.

“The testing center in New Buffalo is very strategic,” Wuth said. “There are Michiganders and out-of-staters coming in and out of the state and we want COVID-19 testing to be as simple and accessible as possible. So our hope is that as people enter the state they will get tested to keep Michiganders safe.”

It’s voluntary. Wuth says anyone can stop by a welcome center and get tested and then have the results texted to them. The site is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other sites taking part in the Travel Points Testing program are MDOT welcome centers in Dundee and Monroe.
