Dr. Rick Johansen has attended his final meeting of the Berrien County Board of Health as Berrien County Medical Director. The board on Wednesday read a resolution honoring the retiring director. The board’s Peg Kohring said Johansen has been medical director since 1999, and in the past has served as president of the Michigan Association of Public Health and Preventative Medicine Physicians, and as a member of the governor’s task force on child abuse and neglect. Johansen thanked the board of health.

“It’s been a pleasure serving,” Johansen said. “To say it’s been rewarding would be a complete understatement. It’s a very rewarding job because there are so many varying and different things to do that affect a lot of people.”

Johansen was a champion of smoke-free workplaces in Berrien County. Kohring thanked him for being a leader during the pandemic.
