A bill from state Senator Kim LaSata to rename part of I-94 in Berrien County in honor of a road worker who was killed has been approved by the Michigan Senate. LaSata tells us her legislation designates I-94 from Napier Avenue to the I-196 interchange as the Kevin D. White Memorial Highway. White was a Michigan Department of Transportation worker who died from injuries sustained while on the job in October of 2019.

“He was working on 94 when a tire came off a passing semi and struck him,” LaSata said. “He was a 1989 graduate of Benton Harbor High School and a lifelong resident of Benton Harbor. He worked for MDOT for nine years.”

White was also Benton Township Supervisor. LaSata says the loss is a reminder to always drive carefully in work zones. Her bill now goes to the state House.
