Business leaders are applauding new legislation that will expand the ready-to-drink cocktails market in Michigan. The measure is expected to make canned cocktails more accessible and affordable for distillers. Michigan Beer & Wine Wholesales Association President Spencer Nevins says it will lead to more economic growth and more businesses cropping up across the state.

“The previous tax rate was probably too high for this type of product and it was impeding Michigan’s small distillers from getting involved in this category,” says Nevins. “By lowering this tax rate, more Michigan distillers will be able to get involved and compete as well.”

The bills are expected to go into effect in 90 days.
