There’s a new park in the city of St. Joseph. City Manager John Hodgson tells WSJM News the land is at 213 Upton Drive, where the old city water tower once stood on the north side of the river and across from the Margaret B. Upton Arboretum.

“It’s a small piece of property, about 100 feet square, so it’s really intended to be more of a passive park on the waterfront,” Hodgson said. “By designating it a park, that gives it more protection in the future so the property isn’t sold off at some point. It would have to go to the voters for that to happen.”

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommended making the small parcel into a city park, and the decision was made official this week. Hodgson says the advisory board will now come up with a name and a plan for the parcel.
