Congressman Fred Upton is hailing the passage and signing of the NO HATE Act. He voted for it in the House last week, and it has been signed by President Biden. The bill will increase and standardize the reporting of hate crimes around the country.

“When you have a hate crime, some states would report it, some states wouldn’t,” Upton said. “There was no real solid accounting for whether we’ve seen an increase or a decrease. So there’s now going to be some established standards that the federal government will take comment for and promulgate and we’ll have a real clue, a real idea, whether we’ve seen an increase or not.”

Upton says it’s been sickening to see a massive uptick in hate crimes around the country. The bill would also create a hate crimes hotline, and set aside resources to educate law enforcement on how to recognize such crimes.
