It was not a coincidence. That’s what a pregnant Manistee woman says about the fact that she was at the beach last week with her children and saw three girls struggling in Lake Michigan. Alyssa DeWitt says she called 911 and laid on her stomach on the pier, managing to pull each girl out. She says the girls and some of their parents have thanked her.

“It’s been wild, a little overwhelming at times and I feel like my phone never stops buzzing,” says DeWitt. “I’m getting messages consistently. It’s amazing but I’m not really sure how to take it sometimes.”

The story has made national and international headlines and DeWitt says she wasn’t even going to go to the beach that day, but she just felt like she needed to go, saying she believes she was meant to be there. Everyone is okay, including her baby, but she says her hand was hurting and swollen after the rescue.
