You can now get a COVID-19 vaccine just by showing up to a walk-in clinic run by Spectrum Health Lakeland. Spectrum Health Lakeland Primary Care Director James Savoie tells WSJM News they opened up the clinics in St. Joseph, Niles, and Watervliet this week. All you have to do is go there during operating hours.

“We thought this would be an opportunity for patients that maybe were unable to get away during those normal business hours, and if they want early morning, evening, or even weekend opportunities to receive the COVID vaccination,” Savoie said.

No appointment is needed. Savoie says they’re offering on-demand shots.

“Currently at our walk-in clinics, we are offering only the Pfizer vaccine. The reason behind that is because it’s the only vaccine approved for ages 12 and up, and we wanted to be able make sure when we offer this as a walk-in, we could capture the greatest number of patients.”

The days of mass COVID-19 vaccine clinics have come to an end, and the vaccination effort is now focused on reaching those who didn’t want to or couldn’t get to those earlier events. Savoie says with several months of vaccinations having taken place, the shot has been shown to be safe and effective. Starting next Wednesday, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson shots will also be available on-demand at the Center for Outpatient Services in St. Joseph from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
