The Michigan House Workforce and Talent Development Committee on Thursday held a State of the Workforce hearing and learned more about how businesses are having trouble operating due to a shortage of staff. State Representative Beth Griffin, chair of the committee, says more than a dozen employers testified.

“Right now, the work force is not operating at 100% capacity because we heard from 14 different businesses across all sectors that are telling us that they still need people to come back to work,” Griffin said.

Griffin is calling on Governor Gretchen Whitmer to discontinue the extra $300 per week in federal unemployment benefits going to recipients. The Michigan House on Thursday voted to end the $300 weekly federal unemployment pandemic benefit next Tuesday.
