Saturday brings the annual Trolling with the Troops event in St. Joseph. Volunteers are taking veterans out into Lake Michigan on their boats for a fishing trip. Along for the ride will be state Representative Pauline Wendzel, who tells WSJM News the veterans will leave early in the morning. Everyone is asked to line up along the St. Joe piers when the veterans come back in.

“Between 12:45 and 1 p.m. all of the boats will line up and we have a parade that comes back through the two piers, and people can line up along the piers and show their support by showing signs and flags,” Wendzel said. “We’ll have a helicopters, I believe the fire department is coming to have a water salute, and it’s a really, really neat thing. It’s supposed to be a beautiful day, so we would love to have everyone come out and support your veterans.”

Wendzel says Trolling with the Troops grows each year, and it’s always great to hit the lake with the vets. After you’re done showing support for the returning veterans, you can head over to the Lest We Forget events which are taking place at 275 Upton Drive along the St. Joseph River. Lest We Forget this year remembers the Korean War with a weekend-long series of demonstrations.
