There will be a celebration of appreciation in July for the Priscilla Upton Byrns Walking Trail and the Betty Kohn Outdoor Fitness Zone at the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center in St. Joseph Township. The trail was recently completed after being delayed by COVID-19, while the fitness zone was finished in 2018. Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber Events Director Sarah Spoonholtz tells WSJM News the project began in 2018 when the senior center was awarded grants from the Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation and the Frederick S. Upton Foundation along with significant contributions from Priscilla Upton Byrns’ children. That initial contribution started the development of the now completed Priscilla Upton Byrns Walking Trail and Gardens.

“It’s got a nice shaded area that people can walk through,” Spoonholtz said. “They can just go and relax, get some zen, they can work out in the fitness zone, and they can also enjoy a picnic area with a canopy for shade.”

Spoonholtz says the celebration of its opening will be Friday, July 9 at 10 a.m. Those who want to attend the celebration of the trail being done can RSVP by calling the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center.
