Some water-logged homeowners in the Detroit area say they’re ready to sue. Attorney Ven Johnson is filing a class action lawsuit against local water and sewer authorities due to damage from flooding this past weekend. Johnson told Michigan News Network this week all of it was predictable and avoidable. He expects several homeowners to join the lawsuit, which seeks compensation for the damage.

“Hopefully we’re going to get thousands,” Johnson said. “People have been absolutely devastated. I have people from all over Grosse Pointe calling us and hiring us. Absolutely, we’re going to take good people.”

Johnson says residents should document all losses with inventories and pictures. And act fast, as homeowners have 45 days from the sewer backup to file an event notice claim form to receive potential compensation.
