The National Cherry Festival kicks off this Saturday in Traverse City. Executive director Kat Paye says it’s not the best cherry crop this year because of some freezes, but she says they’ll have them.

“They are not uncommon to not have the harvest during it, or not have local cherries during the festival, but the harvest is actually starting to happen which is rare,” says Paye. “So you actually get to see some of the trucks rolling through town because a lot of the farms are starting to shake this week and next and you’re actually going to have local cherries this year.”

Paye says the cherry festival will also have carnival rides, a cherry farm market, entertainment. It runs through July 10th.
