A $17 billion school aid budget has been signed by governor Gretchen Whitmer. She spoke in Macomb Township Wednesday morning as the record education spending plan was given final approval. Whitmer said the bill gives districts and charter schools at least $8,700 per student, boosting overall funding by 10%. It eliminates a funding gap between districts.

“These funds will be distributed to districts based on their Title I Part A allocation, which means we are getting more money to districts that serve students with the highest need, but all districts are gong to be getting a lot of help,” Whitmer said.

The bill is part of a record $17 billion school aid package. State Representative Brad Paquette of Niles called the package a “significant budget supporting those who invest in the lives of our young people.” He added the “bipartisan work done here is just the first step towards even more future transformational positive change within our education system.”
