An apartment fire over the weekend in Dowagiac is under investigation. Firefighters were called to Parkside Apartments on East Railroad Saturday evening and noticed the fire in one part of the duplex. No one was home in that unit, and everyone in the adjoining home got out safely. Firefighters say the damage was confined to the kitchen of unit 12, but heat and smoke damage was noted, and unit 11 also had smoke damage. The residents of unit 12 had left about an hour before the fire started, and it’s been so far ruled accidental. No cause has yet been found.
